About Postbox

Last reviewed

Postbox is a free web app that connects several Gmail accounts to one combined inbox, so you can read, search, star, archive, reply and send across all of them without switching accounts.

What Postbox is

Postbox is a web application. You sign up with an email address and a password, connect one or more Gmail accounts through Google’s own consent screen, and from then on every connected mailbox appears in a single combined inbox — newest first, colour-coded by account, filterable to one mailbox at a time. Replies go out from the address that received the message.

It does one job. It is not a CRM, not a shared team inbox, not a mail host, and it does not store your mail: message bodies are fetched from Gmail when you open them and are not written down.

What it does

Who built Postbox

Anuj Shetty built Postbox and maintains it alone. It started as a fix for his own problem: several Gmail accounts running at once — one per client, one for the work that pays, one personal — and an hour a day lost to signing out of one and into another. He has written about the reasoning on the home page, and demonstrated the app himself in a short film, 5 Gmail Accounts, One Inbox — I Built It Myself.

There is no company behind Postbox, no funding, no team and no investors. It is an independent project, first released in 2026.

How Postbox is funded

It is not. Postbox is free, has no paid tier and sells nothing. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and your mail is never used to train anything. The honest consequence of that is stated in the acceptable use page: there is no uptime promise, because there is no revenue paying for one.

Postbox is not the Postbox email client

Two unrelated products share this name. The one most people mean is Postbox by Postbox, Inc. — a paid desktop email client for macOS and Windows, first shown at TechCrunch 50 in 2008, acquired by the makers of eM Client in October 2024 and discontinued. This Postbox is a separate, free web app with no connection to that company, its code or its support. If you arrived looking for the desktop client, the full explanation is here.
